Sometimes we want to have some Asian food for a little celebration, and Getsuen Hanten is our steady choice. Located in Plaza House Shopping Center in Okinawa-shi, near Rycom Shopping Center.
Also known as Charlie’s Restaurant, this chinese restaurant was founded in 1954 when the Plaza House Shopping Center was open. 63 years old. The Cantonese cuisine with Okinawa ingredients has been so loved by local families over generations.
A classic interior of an upscale Chinese restaurant.
They are doing healthy menu based on TCM dietary therapy, incorporating some Okinawa herbs and vegetables with medicinal properties.
Tsing Tao Beer from China.
We were here to celebrate 5-day intensive program we just finished.
Out of the special menu, fried shrimps in saffron sauce.
Shrimps were so plump and Ginkgo nuts were adding nice flavor to the dish.
Also from the special menu, fried pork and bitter melon in chinese black vinegar sauce.
This was delicious. We love aged black vinegar.
Instead of soup, we had a soup noodle that Yuyu loved.
The bowl was filled with ingredients from the ocean and the farms. It’s Cantonese typical soy sauce seasoning.
The waitresses had new uniforms.
These people are the most diligent restaurant service people in Okinawa in our opinion. They behave so stylish too, in a very classic way.
In fact, we suspect they are Ninja.
They walk so fast and so quietly. They see everything. They hear everything. They are always so alert for any signs from their customers. They carry 5 big dishes at the same time with no sweat.
They provide Jasmine tea for free. They see how you hold the pot to pour to your cup and they know when is time you need a refill by that angle. They are Ninjas.
We come here pretty often since we moved to Okinawa 8 years ago. And every time we come here, we see the same people always. This restaurant is open 7 days a week. They never change. They are always here. They probably don’t sleep either.
This is the signature fried chicken (half)
Seasoned by star anise and other Chinese spice mix, so fine and crispy on the outside, so juicy on the inside. Both breast and thigh are beautifully done. It’s an art piece.
Any fried rice here is a sure bet, too. We tried BBQ pork and mustard leaves.
The rice is done so fluffy, mixed with savory flavor of pork and bitter freshness of mustard leaves.
We always order more than we can eat, and take home leftovers for our next day’s breakfast.
