The Day’s Specials at Kato-san

Kato Shokudo is our favorite place. We wanted to go to Aroma Onsen in Ginowan to warm up our bodies.  Kato Shokudo happens to be near… Well, we could use any excuses to come here.   Chicken liver mousse and pork patty.  We just can’t miss it.  So tasty, so creamy.  No edgy scent.   We can’t miss this one either.  We don’t know why, but we just can’t get enough of these fries here.  We don’t know what.  We think they put in something addictive.  (just kidding)  It’s just so good.   We decided to go for the day’s specials today. The first to come was this.  Grilled fig with […]

Good Old Nago Soba

There is a Okinawa soba place in the central Nago we like. Yae Soba is very much loved by the local, the old people mostly.   Nice to park at Nago City Market and walk from there.  If you buy something at the market, it’s free.  There’s a little coffee shop for that.  If not, JPY50 per 30 minutes.  Nothing.   Walk through this backstreet into the deep Nago.   Goofing around the weird night clubs on the way.     And here we are. The menu is simple. Okinawa Soba with pork back ribs.  With pork belly.  With half ribs and half belly.  And Jushi, Okinawan mix rice.   I had […]

Sui-Ton with Agoo Pork

We came to see our friends.  Masami-san and Jimmie at Miyabi Chaya. Miyabi Chaya is a ohagi cafe but they serve lunch too.   Sui-Ton Ton. Sui-Ton Lunch set is JPY850 which comes with an ohagi and a drink.  Add JPY300 for Agoo pork, Okinawa’s unique species and a brand pork, Sui-Ton Ton.   Yuyu had miso base.   Agoo Pork is fatty meat.  The fat carries sweet taste.  Soft in texture, richer in Umami components.  Low in cholesterol.  The fat melts at lower temperature. I strongly recommend to add Agoo because it makes the whole bowl tastier with Umami components.   Sui-Ton is originally from Northern Japan.  It’s like Udon in different […]

Housesmoked Bacon Burger

On your way to the aquarium, there’s a good burger. Sorry, it’s not about Captain Kangaroo this time. This time I went to ToTo la Bebe in Motobu for the first time.   There’s a good parking lot in the same block.   They recently remodeled the place.   It’s a ticket system.  Self-service is requested. The basic burger is JPY760. But I’m here for Special Burger today.  JPY1200.  JPY1300 with cheese. Add JPY500 for drink and large-size fries.   There’s a bright dining space.   And there’s a Japanese floor space.   Here it comes. I’m smelling the smoked bacon already. They make buns, patty, bacon, fries for themselves in […]

The Best Curry Doughnut

On your way to the aquarium is a nice bakery.   “Pain de Kaito” is the name.  (“pain” is a French word for bread) Good variety of different kinds of bread and pastry. Maybe they are not the best bakery on the island but I respect this bakery because they have such a wide variety and each pastry is made for specific taste and texture with different dough, different kinds of cheese, nuts, and fruits.  It’s not like a franchise bakery that use the same dough for everything. I think this bakery and Boulangerie i+plus are 2 street bakeries with that skills and good taste.   Everything is good.  Just trust your […]

Sushi for anniversary

Tsukiji Aozora the 3rd in Naha is our best affordable sushi bar in Naha. They have the head sushi bar in Tsukiji, Tokyo fish market, and several other locations.  It’s a joint venture by the Tsukiji fish supplier who has been in business for 100 years and the sushi chef who has 40 years of experience.   It’s very nice to know a nice authentic Edo-style sushi bar in Okinawa for special occasions.   And this was a special occasion.  It was our anniversary.   Yes.  Hit yourself honey.   We ordered 11 chef’s choice + 1 sushi of your choice.  JPY4650. They have sushi course from JPY2400 to JPY6450.  Also Japanese cuisine […]

Cold Udon Lunch

Sans Souci is a very popular cafe in Kita Nakagusuku, specialized in Udon and other Kyoto – Okinawa hybrid food.       We were seated in the kid’s room.  There’s open floor in the middle where little kids can play while parents can sit and eat at the tables around it.  A very family-friendly space here.   We were hungry for lunch.  The menu has very nice pictures, nicely laid out.   They have lunch set which comes with the little daily plate of the day and desert.  Today’s plate is Kujo Negi (Kyoto green onion) and deep-fried tofu from Kyoto in a vinegar miso.   And that’s what YuYu had with their […]

Detox lunch of traditional medine

This is a little while back.  We went to Cafe Garamanjaku to detox our toxicated friend from Osaka!!!   As usual, starting with today’s mix.  Seasonal veggies, fruits, wild plants and herbs.   It really nourishes your digestive system with enzymes.     Just look at the beautiful plate of traditional medicine of local veggies and wild plants. Yummmmmm, soooooo soothing!   Kiyoko-san gave us a special treat.  Miki is a naturally fermented drink made of rice powder, sweet potato, and sugar that they have made traditionally around okinawa islands.  This one is made of purple potato.  Tastes like Yogurt. The taste depends on how many days it has been fermented, but this one is young, just a couple […]
